VIRTUAL RACE FAQ
WHAT IS A VIRTUAL RACE?
A virtual race simply means that you commit to running a certain distance on your own (5 miles, 2 miles or ½ mile), in whatever location you choose- in your neighborhood, on a treadmill at home, etc! Virtual runners have the option of running on a different day/time if the evening of July 22 is not convenient. Virtual runners also have the option to time themselves and submit their race times to be posted on the website (you will receive an email with a link to submit your time). Virtual runners will not be eligible for prizes, however, because times cannot be verified.
If we CANNOT have the race in the park, we will focus our energy on adding some additional components to the virtual race, including a live virtual party on facebook. This virtual party would include a drawing for prizes for anyone who completes the virtual race and submits their time.
HOW DOES REGISTRATION WORK?
Both online and mail-in registration are available. Registration is essentially the same as in past years, except that you will need to choose one of two options:
OPTION 1: Register for the race at the park (as usual)- select 5 miles, 2 miles or kids’ ½ mile*
OPTION 2: Register for the virtual race- select 5 miles, 2 miles or kids’ ½ mile
*IF COVID-19 prohibits us from having the race at Carson Park, all registrations for the race at the park will automatically be converted to registrations for the virtual race. Registrants will receive an email notification if their registration is converted.
If at some point you would like to change your registration from Option 1 to Option 2 (or vice versa), you can do so by emailing your request to firstname.lastname@example.org
WHAT IS THE COST TO REGISTER FOR THE VIRTUAL RACE?
Registration fees are the same for both at-the-park and virtual races:
Race fee discount through July 1:
$15 age 12 & under, $25 age 13-adult, $75 family of 4+*
Race fees after July 1:
$18 age 12 & under, $28 age 13-adult, $80 family of 4+*
*Family of 4+ discount applies to those living in the same household
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO BE GUARANTEED A T-SHIRT?
To guarantee your t-shirt, postmark registration by June 29 or register online by July 1

WHAT ABOUT PACKET PICKUP FOR THE VIRTUAL RACE?
There are two in-person packet pickup options for ALL race participants (those running at the park AND those running virtually):
Tuesday, July 21 from 5-7 pm at the Fierce Freedom office, 2519 N. Hillcrest Pkwy Ste 200, Altoona, WI, 54720
Wednesday, July 22 starting at 4:30 pm at Carson Park, at Oak Pavilion (the large pavilion between the main parking lot and the main playground)
If COVID-19 prohibits us from having the race at the park, then we will only offer in-person packet pickup on the 21st at the Fierce Freedom office. If needed, we will add a curbside or drive-through option.
Virtual race participants have the option of having their t-shirt(s) shipped to them. Shipping fees apply. Please note that t-shirt(s) may not arrive by race day. Please also note that the shipping option is only available through July 1st.
WHY NOT POSTPONE OR CANCEL DUE TO THE UNCERTAINTIES OF COVID-19?
We have decided not to cancel because the Justice Run is Fierce Freedom’s largest fundraiser of the year AND largest community awareness event of the year. We want to keep the momentum going for future years. We have decided that if we are not able to have the race at the park, we will NOT postpone to fall because 1) we could face further COVID-19-related obstacles in the fall and 2) a fall race date would compete with the new Eau Claire Marathon dates on Sept 26-27.
WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY?
IF COVID-19 prohibits us from having the race at Carson Park, all registrations for the race at the park will automatically be converted to registrations for the VIRTUAL race. You will receive an email notification if your registration is converted.
Refunds and deferrals will NOT be offered because the event is a fundraiser. You may, however, transfer your registration to another runner. Please email your request to email@example.com

COLLECT DONATIONS FOR YOUR RACE!
Race participants are encouraged (but not required) to collect donations from friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers in support of their race! Prizes will be awarded to the top three individuals who raise the most money.
*To be eligible for prizes, donations are due on or before race day.
